January

First trip of summer 2022 and it was back to our favorite spot, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. This was my 5th trip, and Travis and I’s 4th trip together. This was our first trip out of the country post-pandemic (still going on but you know what I mean). Since our last trip, Cabo has really blown up as trendy destination for vacations, bachelor/bachelorette parties etc. so there were a few new things I could not wait to check out. The first time I went to Cabo was 10 years ago, so this is a list of things we did this trip + in years past. Also, a special shout out to my mom & Dad for taking us along on these amazing trips every year!

*This review of Cabo San Lucas is purely from my experiences, and I am in no way considered a travel agent/expert *

Things to know

Before getting into all the fun vacation details, a few things about travel, things to pack, etc.

First off, we ordered new luggage for this trip & I truly do not know how we ever travelled before without it. We bought The Large & The Bigger Carry-On from Away. We also got the packing cubes to go inside the bags from Away. I also got some of the travel size bottles for my shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc.

Airport Essentials

A re-fill able water bottle. I use this when I go through the airport, so I don’t have to spend a ton of money on the water bottles in the airport & it is good for the environment. I also used it around the resort to make sure I always stayed hydrated while I was de-hydrating with the sun and margaritas haha! I also packed Liquid I.V. to add to my water each day to double up on the hydration.

Speaking of the airport. If you do not have it, and travel often, I highly recommend getting TSA Pre-Check. As I am sure you have heard through the news and social media, airports are CRAZY right now. This is just one easy step to get through security a little bit quicker. For travelling internationally, it is also very important to have the MPC (Mobile Passport Control) app on your phone to get through customs swiftly when you return to the states. We had this on our phone, and we skipped the entire customs line and got to go straight through.

Make sure to pack

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!! I took 3 bottles and thought that would be enough for Travis & I for a 7-day trip. I was most definitely mistaken and ended up having to buy some from the gift shop in the resort and the mark-up was NOT IT! We spent $50+ on 2 bottles of sunscreen, so let me emphasize the more the better on the sunscreen to save you.

If you plan to do the excursions (such as the ones I mention below) comfortable shoes / tennis shoes that you do not mind getting dirty with the sand.

A small bag to take for the excursions and to the pool. Most excursions always provide a locker for your things while  you are there, so I always like to have a small bag to take all of my things with.

Places to stay

As mentioned above, we have been going to Cabo for the last 10 years. Below is a list of all of the places we have stayed over the years. This most recent time we stayed at the Villa La Valencia.

Villa La Valencia

Some pros/cons with this resort since is where we most recently stayed.

I will start with the Pros because overall this was a beautiful resort with TONS of potential. It is brand new and just recently opened, everything is updated, and the views are amazing.

  • Great pool side service. We found an amazing server (Rodrigo) and he made sure the drinks kept on flowing
  • Activities in/ by the pool. Travis and my nephew Ross had the most fun playing pool volleyball, and my mom and I did a painting and wine class down by the pool.
  • All the food I ate was delicious.
  • A full-size lazy river that pool floats are provided. This was so fun and relaxing to do throughout the day
  • It was not overly crowded. Not sure for what reason, but it was nice to not be overly crowded.
  • Access to the beach. The water in Cabo is tough, but I was able to walk down to the water and carefully put my feet in.
  • The ability to have all-inclusive. There is an option to add on all inclusive. In trips past if we know we will be out venturing town more, we won’t always add the extra for all-inclusive every day of the trip.

Before mentioning any cons, I am by no means bashing this resort. This is a non-biased review of just our experience, and the property is beautiful, just a few things that were not the best experience.

  • Commute to town. This by far was the worst of this resort. I won’t get into it, but they were terrible about coordinating a ride for you, and every taxi ride was $50+ one-way.
  • This is a pro/con for me – but the resort was not in the downtown area of Cabo. We were only about 15 minutes from the airport. Luckily, we didn’t plan a lot to go to town, because as mentioned in the first con, getting transportation was the worst.
  • Mis-leading website on “ocean view” rooms. I would recommend calling to verify the room you will be getting if this detail is a big deal to you.
  • There was only 3 dinner restaurants’. Food was delicious, but the options were limited being there for 7 days.
