Okay guys, since I have been travelling a ton over this summer, I wanted to share my travel essentials + tips I have learned to make travelling through the airport a little more tolerable. I have 1 more trip coming up (Las Vegas), and have already taken 2 (Cabo San Lucas & Nashville) so far this summer. I know right now is the prime time to travel since it is nearing the end of summer. With that being said, here are all of my tips + tricks to make navigating the airport a breeze.
*I am not nor do I consider myself an expert on travelling. These are just things I have found to make things easier.*
Things I use for Travel
I use Away Luggage + their packing cubes. Away has an amazing warranty and if you don’t love it you can return it up to 100 days of purchase. They stand by their products and for good reason (No this is not sponsored, I just really love our new luggage). My bathroom bag that I always keep packed is Jon Hart. Jon Hart is a TX based company and I have used their stuff for years, the quality is top-notch. A few other mentionable things I travel with are my new tote from Chloe ( yes, she is pretty & yes, she was one of those splurge purchases I make), a re-fillable water bottle from Bru-Mate, air pods, iPad, and a really good book.
Pre-Travel
If you read my blog post around our Cabo San Lucas vacation, then you already know some of these things but I will mention them all again.
I can’t mention TSA pre-check enough, this is so worth it if you plan to travel. The airports for both of my trips have been so PACKED, and this has saved me so much time getting through security. Also, you don’t have to take your shoes off or pull out all of your liquids from your carry-on.
For travelling internationally, it is also very important to have the MPC (Mobile Passport Control) app on your phone to get through customs swiftly when you return to the states. We had this on our phone, and we skipped the entire customs line and got to go straight through.
We travel mostly through Hobby airport in Houston, and always pre-pay for our parking online. I believe it saves around 10% or so when you pre-book, and it is a really simple process when you get to the airport. You just scan a QR code, and you are good to go. Takes the hassle out of stressing about an additional thing you need while travelling.
Dress in Layers
Depending on your destination, and even the time of year you are travelling, dress in layers on the flight. Try to wear the bulkiest items while you are on the flights in order to save space in your bags. For example; I always travel with a jacket no matter where we go, so I try to always have it on me or around my waist while going through the airport. If I plan to wear sneakers/boots during my trips, I also try to incorporate that as my airport fit to avoid packing them.
Keep things Organized
Whether you are travelling domestic or international you always need your boarding pass and an I.D when going through security. I have found wearing a fanny pack ( yes, the lululemon belt bag), has been really helpful during airport travel. I put my I.D / passport right in there for easy access whenever I need it. I also am a very organized person so nothing is worse than having a panic attack in the airport security line looking for your I.D while everyone else is waiting.
Keep your Toiletries Packed
As I mentioned above, I always keep my Jon Hart bathroom bag packed. I use re-fill able travel size bottles for my soap, shampoo, etc. so I never forget it. Keeping my bag always packed makes the packing process at home so easy. By doing this, if my toiletry bag needs to be added to my carry-on last minute because my checked bag is 50+ pounds, I can (yup, speaking from experience).
Don’t Forget to Pack
I know it seems like this would be a no-brainer, but I have forgotten some of the most important things when it comes to packing last minute. The night before travel, make sure to pack your “airport” bag, this is where I use my Chloe tote. A few essentials in this bag are my Air pods, iPad, book, fully-charged battery pack, charger for phone/watch, and my re-fill able water. I feel like the most essential thing from that list is the re-fillable water bottle because there is nothing worse than spending $10 on a water bottle in the airport. Also, the entertainment for the flight is important especially if you are on a long flight. I don’t ever pay extra for the Wi-Fi, so that is why I take my book and iPad on the flight instead of one being inside my bag.
Well guys, that is it. I know it is simple, but I really hope some of these travel trips help make your next time in the airport a breeze. Let me know if you are enjoying the travel series I have been sharing by leaving a comment / like on this post.
Thanks for hanging out
